Chef Michael Smith honed his skills in Nice, France, and Chicago’s Charlie Trotter’s, among others, before taking the helm at Kansas City’s revered The American Restaurant in 1994 where he was one of the city’s first James Beard Award-winning chefs. A pioneer in the emerging Crossroads Art District, he opened Michael Smith Restaurant and Extra Virgin—a bustling Spanish tapas concept— in 2007. Farina continues his love affair with Kansas City.
