It’s time to return to doing what we love and what inspires us: cooking for our guests. Since temporarily closing two months ago, we’ve missed — terribly — creating great food, cocktails and wine for you in our signature warm and inviting atmosphere.
You’ll find all of that again, along with a few changes to ensure a safe environment for you and to accommodate guidelines from local and state health officials and the CDC. Clear partitions have been installed between tables and we’ve designed one-use menus. The Farina team will wear masks and our cleaning protocol — inherent in our standard operations — will remain vigilant and exemplary.
But let’s talk about Farina’s Modern Italian cuisine — the reason you fell in love with Farina in the first place. You’ll discover a seasonal collection of favorite (and some new) dishes, including antipasti, salads, pastas, entrees and desserts. Beverage director Berto Santoro and his team have created delicious new cocktails and Nancy’s award-winning wine list is as extraordinary as ever.* And behind our team’s masks, expect the same smiles you’ve always appreciated.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve adhered to every Kansas City health requirement including separating tables, stringent cleaning and having our team wear masks. And now, effective today, June 29, Mayor Quinton Lucas is requiring masks for everyone while out in public and in establishments including restaurants. Those establishments not in compliance may be fined.
Therefore, we are asking our diners to wear face coverings when entering, being seated and while ordering. Of course, masks can be removed to enjoy your beverages and dinner.

Michael Smith Restaurant gets new name, look and location
Farina is the next chapter in James Beard Award-Winning Chef Michael Smith’s career. Its genesis was a dinner Chef Smith and his wife, Nancy Smith, had with friends at Guido, a one-star Michelin restaurant in Italy’s Piedmont region. As wine flowed and course after course emerged from the tiny kitchen, the couple knew this was the experience they wanted to bring back to Kansas City; evenings that become memories, bonds that become stronger over extraordinary food and wine.
That’s what you’ll find at Farina—a casual yet elegant space for sharing and savoring with others. Whether it’s a romantic evening, business dinner, family gathering or group of friends heading to one of Kansas City’s nearby cultural events, the Farina team has only two requests when you dine here: Leave your cares at the door and let us spoil you.
